Major Recall of Nutritional Supplements on the Way…Maybe |

A recent study put on by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, which also included scientists from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, University of Kentucky Medical Center, and Colorado State University found some alarming evidence in a substance commonly found in nutritional supplements. Miniscule, infectious protein matter known as prions have been found in antler velvet, a sometimes common ingredient in nutritional supplements.
The study states “Humans who consume antler velvet as a nutritional supplement are at risk for exposure to prions (Canada.com).” Before you go scouring through your nutritional supplement labels for antler velvet take this quote into account from Dr. Kiley of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency, “Based upon the scientific evidence at this time, they should not be concerned (Canada.com).” The “they” in that above quote are people who consume nutritional supplements, which include antler velvet.
More research is needed before anything radical like a recall takes place. There are so many variables to disease and its causes that not every study or finding should affect consumer thinking. More than likely the findings are nothing more then circumstantial evidence which will not harm people.
