Never thought I would write an article about the importance of pregnant, soon to be moms needing to build muscle for a healthier baby and self but here we go. There is a pretty defined list of what a pregnant woman can and can’t do. Not on the list of can’t dos is build muscle. Pregnant women are actually doing the baby a favor by hitting the gym. Here is what a doctor from Saint Louis University School of Medicine said:
“We know that women who exercise during pregnancy have less chance of developing certain conditions like gestational diabetes. Women can cope with the anatomical and physiological changes of pregnancy better when they're in good shape. They also tolerate labor better and recover more quickly from delivery (abcnews.go.com).”
I don’t think anyone can argue with those benefits. It is not recommended to have a full throttle build muscle routine just something that keeps you feeling limber and in shape. Leave the hardcore workouts until after the baby is delivered. Vitamins minerals and antioxidants are even more important for pregnant women too.
