build muscle

As we age it becomes extremely important to keep moving and build muscle. This became very apparent when my dad experienced a weakening of his muscles and an inability to do the things he used to do with ease. It is a hard pill to swallow but our bodies change as we get older. My dad did not like this at all. He fought it all the way.

I did my best to help him with the battle to build muscle or at least keep what he had. Together we got him a bunch of fitness equipment. We put together a program with a fitness instructor at my gym. This program was designed for the beginner and to assist my dad to build muscle. On certain days we worked with hand weights and did arms routines. The alternate days were dedicated to build muscle in the legs. We rode bikes, did squats, lunges and swam.

It did not take long for my dad to become stronger. He felt better physically which led to a better state of mind. It also gave him the ability to continue independent living for a while longer. He continued to build muscle and stay fit until his final days when his heart just gave out. He left this world a happy man.
